Now Boarding the Bone Broth Train

I’m sure some of you have heard of the new kid in town. Bone broth. I am glad that this is ‘new’ trend is spreading all over social media. It’s not exactly new exactly a new food.  It is one of the best broths you can give to your immune system. Just think about it. regular broth comes from the outside of the chicken or your preference of poultry. But Bone broth goes further than that. You are consuming the vitamins and minerals from the broken down bones which have powerful healing properties. So how exactly is it made and what are it’s benefits? Let’s start of with the basic question. . .

What is Bone Broth?

Bone broth has been used for thousands of years by cultures around the globe. Bone broth is pretty much broken down chicken or any other animal bones simmered in a pot of water. Dressed up in vegetables and a few seasonings. The simmering extracts amino acids, collagen, and minerals from the bones into the broth.

Is Store Bough Broth good?

Just like every other food that we grab from the grocery store to satisfy our quick fix. It is not the best choice. Homemade is always best. But don’t fret. Here are some tips to take with you when searching for the best sore bough broth

  • Look for broth with no MSG
  • Diss the labels with “natural flavors” on it. Don’t be fooled. Most brands with these words have the most artificial ingredients.
  • check the freezer isle. Frozen broth means fresh.

Here’s a group of the best bone broths out there that are close to the real thing.

What are the benefits?

  1. Protects Joints

Think about it this way. You’re stealing the animal bones Collagen. boiling bone makes Gelatin. With Gelatin comes Collagen has a huge amount of three important factors that build strong tissue to keep your joints strong: amino acid, glycine, and proline.

2.It’s all in the G’s. Take Gelatin. Get  strong Gut.

Gelatin is shown to restore strength of the gut lining and fighting food sensitivities such as wheat and diary. Not a fan of kombucha? Broth is another option to a probiotic drink. Gelatin also helps with the growth of good bacteria to support a healthy gut and digestive tract.

  •  gelatin= great skin. Collagen helps form elastin and other compounds within skin that are responsible for maintaining skin’s youthful tone, texture and appearance.

3. Support Immune System

Bone broth is one of the most beneficial foods to consume to restore gut health and therefore support immune system function and healthy inflammation response. Collagen/gelatin and the amino acids proline, glutamine and arginine help seal these openings in the gut lining and support gut integrity.

4. Boosts Detox

Nowadays, the average person is exposed to many environmental toxins, pesticides, artificial ingredients and chemicals of all sorts. While the human body has its own means of detoxifying itself from heavy metals and other toxic exposures, it often has a hard time keeping up. Bone broth is considered a powerful detoxification agent since it helps the digestive system expel waste and promotes the liver’s ability to remove toxins, helps maintain tissue integrity, and improves the body’s use of antioxidants.

Bone broth contains potassium and glycine, which support both cellular and liver detoxification.

Ginger Tea Latte

Move over Cinnamon. Turmeric is the new Anti- Inflammatory queen. It has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. It’s also a strong antioxidant. Add this on everything. I like to give my food some color at times by sprinkling some on my veggies or smoothies. Taste is slightly bitter and earthy. Just a little pinch and you’re set.

My sister shared this recipe with me. The only thing I decided to add was froth milk. I love latte’s because of the creamy texture. I find a froth want to be more convenient for me because it gives me more control over how frothy I make the milk. I found my froth one at IKEA. IT was cheap but it does the job

Fresh Ginger

Turmeric powder

ground black pepper

Sweetener (honey, or sugar)

I love how it blends well with my smoothie. I drink the smoothie with my reusable straw so I get the bee pollen at the very end.

One thing I do suggest for those of you who are new to bee Pollen,

Take one dot and try it out to see if you feel any allergic reaction. You might not bee allergic to any other bee products but pollen is made differently so it might get ya.

For those of you with any allergies please be careful as well.

Allergic to bees? I wouldn’t risk it. But if you still feel like trying it out. I suggest you ask your doctor first.

Have you tried bee pollen? Did you like it?

Snack Attack- Dairy-Free Yogurt Parfait

IMG_4573 I begin every morning with a 10 minute meditation and a yogurt parfait. it’s my tried and true recipe for an amazing day. Who am I kidding I have this as a snack before my dinner and sometimes after dinner as a dessert. Last night, I experimented with some fruits. I wanted to dress up my yogurt with new ingredients. Pear, banana, strawberry, granola, bee pollen.

I had a huge amount of strawberries in my fridge. What better way to put them to use than to make homemade strawberry glaze.

I also sliced a banana and grilled it with butter and sprinkled powdered cinnamon on both sides.

My go to yogurt is usually Kite Hill. Unfortunately, my local Whole Foods stopped carrying the original Kite Hill Yogurt. So I had to go with the brand’s Greek-Style Yogurt for this recipe. Let me tell you that this Greek style yogurt taste close to regular milk yogurt. without the thick texture and tart flavor. the flavor and texture is a perfect balance.

Strawberry Glaze Ingredients:

  • ! cup of strawberries
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp of of lemon juice

  1. Crush a cup of strawberries
  2. place crushed strawberries in a medium saucepan. add 1 tbsp of sugar
  3. cook and stir over heat until mixture thickens
  4. remove saucepan from heat and stir in and 1 tbsp of lemon juice.
  5. let cool

Last step:

Let your creativity take over and decorate your bowl with your homemade toppings.
